September 4th - Book Launch at Bar Risa, Nottingham
NOTTS-based self-published authors' group New Writers UK stages a five-title book launch in Nottingham next week – a curtain-raiser for the organisation's fourth major festival later in September.
Among the works to be unveiled at Bar Risa in the British Waterways Building, off Canal Street, on Thursday (7.30pm) is Second Sight, by Paula Newcombe.
"It is the first book I have had published and it is all thanks to New Writers UK," says Paula.
"I started my story over two years ago whilst on maternity leave and was motivated to finish it when I joined the New Writers group in September 2007. They offered advice and encouragement together with suggestions of how to go about editing my story to a mainstream standard, designing a cover and finally getting it published.
"There are other new authors in the group I found useful to talk to. It can be a lonely business writing a book especially if there are no writers amongst your family or friends. We could share both experiences good and bad!
"The New Writers festivals have had well known authors like Helen Hollick and Jo Field giving talks which I found very enlightening and encouraging.
"I am hoping to finish my second book which is completely different to the first very soon."
